What can DTF heat transfers be applied to?

We've tested our Direct to Film heat transfers on all kinds of things - and we'll keep updating this list as we go!

It's no secret that Direct to Film heat transfers are perfect for apparel and other soft goods. There are a few things you want to think about when determining if DTF can be used:

  1. Application temperature: Make sure that the item you want to decorate can withstand the application temperature required for quality results. If the item doesn't need to be washed (i.e. a notebook) than you can lower the temperature.
  2. Placement and ability to get the pressure you need: If the item has a lot of nooks and crannies, you may not be able to get the proper heat and temperate to the transfer to apply correctly. For example, our DTF transfers work great on wood, but you need to make sure you have enough access to use a press or iron to get the even heat and pressure required.

Traditional Clothing and Soft Goods

Direct to Film transfers can be applied to cotton, cotton/poly, polyester, canvas, denim, etc. That means you can decorate:

  • Tops: T-shirts, polos, sweatshirts, button-downs, etc
  • Bottoms: Pants, denim, overalls, skirts, sweatpants, etc
  • Dresses, onesies, rompers, etc
  • Hats of all kinds
  • Jackets, ponchos, etc including denim and nylon (just make sure there's no waterproof coating!)
  • Accessories: scarves, aprons, bandanas, etc
  • Bags like totes, duffels, nylon drawstring, fanny packs, backpacks, etc
  • Workwear including scrubs, safety vests, etc

As with anything, we always recommend a test application on any new fabrics, especially ones that have synthetic threads. This is not only to test that the transfer will adhere, but also that the transfer holds up in the wash!
